BRANDON IN AT KILLIE BUT DICKER’S OUT

- BY CRAIG SWAN

KILMARNOCK last night sealed a deal to sign leftback Brandon Haunstrup.

But Rugby Park boss Alex Dyer has been hit by the news skipper Gary Dicker is set to miss the start of the Premiership campaign after undergoing a double hernia operation.

Haunstrup has agreed a two-year deal after leaving Portsmouth, where he rose through the academy to play his part in the club’s League One play-off push over the past two seasons.

The 23-year-old, who had loan spells at Bognor Regis and Sutton, said: “The move has been in the pipeline for a little while and I couldn’t wait to get up here so I’m delighted it is all sorted.

“As a player I’m energetic and like getting forward and I’m happy playing leftback or as a wing-back.

“The manager, coaching staff and players all seem great and I can’t wait to get started.”

Dicker missed the 2-1 defeat to Livingston in a bounce game at Rugby Park yesterday and Dyer told Killie TV: “Gary had a double hernia operation which these days isn’t a major surgery.

“He’ll be out for two to three weeks but he had it done last week so maybe a couple of weeks time and we can get him back out there.”

New signings Danny Whitehall, Aaron McGowan, Mitch Pinnock and Zeno Rossi all started but Rory McKenzie’s goal after coming off the bench was not enough to prevent a Livi victory.

A first club goal for Allan Forrest after his summer capture from Ayr and a clincher from defender Efe Ambrose won the contest for Gary Holt’s side.

The Livi boss said: “We started the game really positively and it’s just about taking the messages from training into games.

“We showed some really good traits, scored some really good goals and could have had a few more.”
