Whittaker: No fear for top tier

-

STEVEN WHITTAKER insists he has his sights set on a Premiership return with Dunfermline.

The former Rangers and Hibs defender has penned a 12-month deal with the Pars after leaving Easter Road earlier this summer.

The 36-year-old will combine playing with a coaching role and said: “The aim is to finish as high as we can and hopefully get back to the Premiership.” sitters – 4-0 deflects from the fact Rangers’ defence is dodgy. This season will be a walk in the park for Celtic.”

The champions were defeated 4-0 by PSG the previous night and Tom McGuinness, Castlecary, said: “It is really amusing reading comments from Neil Lennon, Callum McGregor and others regarding the so-called ‘antics’ they endured from Neymar.

“For Lennon to complain about dirty tricks from the Brazilian is laughable considering Scott Brown is a total wind-up merchant, although he doesn’t possess a fraction of Neymar’s skill.”

Wullie Graham, Bristol, isn’t happy to see a former Jambo head south as he said: “Sam Nicholson signing for Bristol Rovers is another indicator of how Scottish football is in a dire state.

“When a team like Rovers stuck in League One with an attendance of 7000 and a bomb-site stadium can outbid Hearts, then we are in a sorry state.”

Meanwhile, the sight of Liverpool lifting the top-flight trophy in England reopened some old summer wounds.

George Wilson, West Sussex, said: “Good to see Liverpool win their league with a resounding victory on the park. Compare this to the shambles that is the SPFL where a team will represent Scotland in the Champions League without winning their league.”

Scott Gowers emailed to add: “The FA should take all the plaudits. Liverpool deserved the title.

“The SFA should apologise to everyone especially Hearts, Partick Thistle, Stranraer, Brora Rangers and Kelty Hearts as the FA took the fairest and most legal route for the crowning of champions.”

Rab Hunter, Dumfries, added: “Wasn’t it great to watch the English championship settled on the field? Very exciting. Certainly better than your league being decided by a nerd working in a darkened room.”
