Let There Be.. a homecoming

-

THE YOUNG brothers and original singer Bon Scott were born in Scotland but raised in Australia. So are they a Scottish band or an Aussie band? The debate will always rage.

But fan Geoff Ellis, of DF Concerts, was determined to give them a homecoming show – booking them to play Hampden in 2009.

It was the first time they’d played Scotland since 1986 at Edinburgh’s Playhouse.

Geoff would get them back again in 2015 for another huge Hampden show.

He said: “When we got them to do Hampden in 2009, it was the first time they’d played in nearly 30 years in Scotland.

“A long time given that Malcolm and Angus were both from Scotland.

“That show sold out very fast and we got them back in 2015.

“Their influence on metal bands through the world has been huge.

“They’re one of those few bands who have gone through personnel changes and tragedy and things but have always been huge, selling however many tens of millions of records, going out live and selling 50k tickets in no time, headlining festivals and bear in mind they’re no spring chickens any more.

“For us, seeing them in Glasgow, the energy on stage was incredible.

“You couldn’t ignore the rock‘n’roll brilliance of AC/DC.

“They were this unique band that cool new wave music people could like too, along with youth culture, football, everything that was going on.”

Disco was huge and punk and new wave were ascendant, and along came this AC/DC record which just destroyed everybody. It put hard rock music back on the throne, where it belongs.
