Derry given invite for a return date
BY ALAN MARSHALL DERRY CITY boss Declan Devine says Celtic have promised his team a future friendly after today’s planned Parkhead fixture failed to get the go-ahead.
The Northern Irish outfit had planned to fill the void after Dundalk pulled out over travel restrictions. But the FAI also refused to sanction a trip to Scotland for Derry.
Devine said: “It was a brilliant opportunity. Celtic were very impressed with how we went about our preparation for the game.
“We all got tested and did everything by the book then at the last minute the FAI wouldn’t sanction it as far as I know.
“It’s disappointing but Celtic have given us an assurance they will have us over at a time that suits in the coming months.” season – although Jermain Defoe’s late injury was cause for concern.
