COISTY’S A ROLE PRO

Duvall – Ally filmed sex scene in front of wife

- BY STUART MACDONALD

HOLLYWOOD legend Robert Duvall has revealed he knew Ally McCoist could act when he watched him do a love scene in front of his own wife.

The actor starred alongside the ex-Rangers and Scotland great in football film A Shot at Glory.

They reunited to mark the 20th anniversary of the movie – about a struggling team trying to reach the Scottish Cup final.

McCoist, 57, played Jackie McQuillan, who played for fictional club Kilnockie FC, managed by Duvall’s character, Gordon McLeod. Duvall, 89, said

McCoist was a “natural actor” but joked that the football star was 30lbs lighter at the time.

He said: “That guy McCoist was a natural actor. He was very good – even when he was doing a love scene and his wife was on the set. That sure was interesting.

“He’s a great guy. I met Albert Finney and mentioned I knew Ally. He said, ‘He’s sharp as a tack’.”

McCoist joked that his then wife Allison had marked him “nine out of 10” for the scene.

Scots presenter Ross Owen brought the cast together for a Zoom chat on his YouTube channel. Duvall spoke fondly of his time in Scotland but admitted he found the accent difficult.

He said: “It’s like a foreign language. It’s like a little bit of German and a bit of Scandinavian – a little bit of everything.

“We had a great time in Scotland. The people were terrific.

My wife is from Argentina and didn’t know what to expect but she loved it over there.”

McCoist said: “I can’t believe it’s been 20 years. We all formed a bond during that film. It was brilliant and any time I meet any of the Scottish football guys who were in it– like Owen Coyle and Andy Smith – we always talk about the good times we had.

“I will never forget the humility and friendship from Robert. He was absolutely fantastic.”
