COPS ’FAILED US AFTER MY SON ,7, WAS RAPED’

Victim’s mum says forensic officers didn’t visit scene of horrific sex attack

-

A martian meteorite found in Oman in 1999 will head home on Thursday as part of a robot Nasa is launching to look for signs of life on the Red Planet.

THE mother of a young boy who was allegedly raped by another child has hit out at Police Scotland over its handling of the case.

She claims officers failed to fully investigate the horrific attack on her seven-year-old and ignored forensic evidence.

The mum also alleged social workers have allowed the 15-year-old attacker to mix with other youngsters unsupervised.

The attack – which happened in Dundee last year – mirrors a

BY JAMES MONCUR j.moncur@dailyrecord.co.uk case involving a nine-year-old boy who was allegedly raped in Angus in 2017. The Record told last week how the victim received a five-figure sum in criminal compensation while no meaningful action has been taken against the 12-year-old accused.

The Dundee victim’s mother has lodged complaints with police and the city council. She said: “It has been the worst experience of our lives.

“Police agreed that a serious crime took place but they said the attacker was not mentally fit to be interviewed and that there was not enough corroborating evidence to press charges – but they didn’t even try.

“Forensic officers didn’t even bother going to the crime scene. So for them to say there’s not enough evidence is absolutely gut-wrenching. They simply weren’t interested.”

Detective Chief Inspector Ray Birnie, of Tayside Division Public Protection Unit, said: “An extensive investigation was carried out with the utmost sensitivity in accordance with national and local joint child protection procedures by specialist child protection officers who supported the victim and their family throughout. There was, however, insufficient corroborative evidence in this case to allow the suspect to be charged and reported.”

A Dundee City Council spokesman said: “It would not be appropriate for the council to comment directly about any child’s case.”
