McGregor confident cap fits for McCrorie

-

ALLAN McGREGOR has tipped team-mate Robby McCrorie to push for a cap call if he shines in his second loan at Livingston.

The keeper signed a new long-term deal at Ibrox before heading out again to gain more first team experience and Gers No.1 McGregor believes the youngster could be destined for the top.

He said: “I think he did well. He got good reviews and it’s important for him to go and play at his age. It’s a good move for him and I’m sure he’ll do really well this season.

“I remember my first training session with him and I thought: ‘He’s decent’. He’s kept slowly progressing and it’s good that he’s gone on to have all these games.”

McCrorie has insisted a place in the Scotland squad is his target and McGregor insists it’s not just a pipe-dream.

Speaking to Rangers TV, he added: “You’ve got to have ambition and there’s nothing wrong with that.

“I remember when Liam Kelly was there, he was tipped for the Scotland squad. Zander Clark at St Johnstone was getting tipped when he was doing well, so I don’t see any reason why he can’t.”

McGregor has seen Jon McLaughlin arrive at the club as competition for his place this term but the veteran insisted that kind of pressure has never affected him.

He said: “Jon brings quality and experience, more competition. I’m not saying there wasn’t competition last year, it’s the same every year.

“To be honest, I don’t even think about it. I just go out every day and train and try to do my best.

“I don’t worry about it, which is a good thing I suppose. If you worry about other things, you probably won’t be able to do your best.”
