TAILGATING RANGERS WINGER IS FINED £360

Solicitor says Jones admits his driving was ‘unimpressive’

- BY CONNOR GORDON

A RANGERS star snared by police after they stopped him undertaking cars and tailgating on the motorway was fined £360 yesterday.

Winger Jordan Jones pled guilty earlier this month to careless driving but was spared a road ban.

The 25-year-old was at the wheel of a Range Rover Sport when he drifted over a chevron and white lines on Glasgow’s M8 and a junction on the M77 last July.

Jones also repeatedly carried out undertaking manoeuvres of various vehicles.

The Northern Ireland international, who previously played for Kilmarnock, then drove too close to cars and failed to leave a safe stopping distance.

The charge states Jones drove “without due care or attention or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or public place”.

Jones – who gave an address in Redcar, Yorkshire – was not required to attend the earlier hearing and pled guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court by letter.

He had initially faced a charge of dangerous driving.

However, he was hauled into the dock yesterday to be handed the fine and five penalty points.

His lawyer Michael Gallen said: “In my discussions with Mr Jones, he said his driving was unimpressive.

“It was accepted that his driving fell below the required standard but it was careless driving rather dangerous.

“The Crown was not able to accept that plea until more material became available.”

Sheriff Valerie Mays told Jones: “The tailgating was quite concerning.

“However, having regard to what has been said and other information I have received, I feel I can avoid disqualifying you.”
