MAR 16 2018: Three desperately ill children become infected in cancer wards after bacteria is discovered in the water supply.
AUG 17 2018: Milly Main, 10, dies after picking up stenotrophomonas infection.
SEPT 21 2018: Two children’s cancer wards close after six youngsters were infected with bacteria. A total of 22 kids moved into the QEUH to allow the problem – believed to be drains – to be tackled. OCT 1 2018:
Sixteen children – including one with an aggressive form of cancer – have their chemotherapy cancelled after drains are contaminated.
DEC 2018: A 10-year-old boy fighting cancer dies of cryptococcus – an infection normally associated with pigeon droppings.
A 73-year-old woman dies after contracting cryptococcus in the QEUH. JAN 22 2019:
Health Secretary Jeane Freeman orders a review of the hospital design.
JAN 23 2019: NHSGG&C announces a second infection at the QEUH. Two patients test positive for mucor virus. FEB 8 2019: One of the patients, Mito Kaur, dies from the infection. JULY 4 2019:
Freeman announces she is halting the transfer of patients to the new Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh after ventilation safety fears and orders assessment of all building systems. AUG 4 2019: Unions reveal new sick kids hospital has been flooded twice before it had even opened as major drainage problems hit the project.
NOV 28 2019: Leaked report shows days after the £842million QEUH opened in 2015 warnings were given about the risk of water contamination.
