Sir Chris joins judges for Concours Virtual

-

SCOTTISH cycling legend Sir Chris Hoy MBE is swapping two wheels for four to be a guest judge of the Concours Virtual in aid of the charity Unicef.

Sir Chris’s judging duties will be for the Le Mans 1961-1970 category, which will include a whole host of illustrious cars.

The Olympic cycling hero is no stranger to the 24 Hours Le Mans race, having competed there himself twice with impressive results.

He is an ambassador for Unicef and will be joined in his judging by five-times Le Mans winner Derek Bell, Scots racing driver Marino Franchitti and television presenter Vicki Butler-Henderson.

Chris said: “I’m really excited to be judging the Le Mans class in this year’s Concours Virtual.

“To be doing it alongside heroes like Derek Bell and Marino Franchitti is a huge honour for me as I’m a massive fan of both of them.

“With so much sport being cancelled this year, it’s great to have the opportunity to view these classic cars from the comfort of our homes. The only problem for me is, I love them all, so choosing a winner is going to be very tough.”

Among the cars that Sir Chris will have to pick from are five outright winners of the Le Mans 24 Hour race. They include the 1966 Ford GT40, a 1970 Porsche 917K and a Ferrari 250P that won the event in 1963. The Concours Virtual is hoping to raise £75,000 for Unicef. Chris added: “I’ve seen first-hand the incredible life-changing work the charity runs in Malawi and Madagascar. Our support is more critical now than ever as the coronavirus has upended the lives of children in the UK and abroad.”
