Gerrard’s sitdown with Morelos does the trick as star finds his form
STEVEN GERRARD revealed a heart to heart with Alfredo Morelos following his Leverkusen flop helped the striker turn the corner.
The Colombian produced a two-goal manof-the-match display to sink St Mirren and Gerrard was delighted to see him bounce back
FROM BACK PAGE to his best. Gerrard said: “I did have a private chat with Alfredo about his own performance.
“He acknowledged that he could have been better for us.
“He hasn’t got the same communication levels as the rest of the boys, he’s still learning English.
“But he knows and understands. We use different ways and can show him clips.
“He knew on Thursday night – along with quite a few others – that we never hit our level as a group.
“There was no fingerpointing individually but I do speak to the players and get a feel for what they are feeling.
“Alfredo was well aware that he needed to perform a little bit better when he’s out there.
“But he wasn’t the only one. I think as a group we could have been better on Thursday night.
“He certainly showed a great reaction today, though. From the first whistle until the end, it was a really strong Morelos performance.”
Gerrard, who revealed there has been no further bid from Lille boss Christophe Galtier after his initial offer, added: “Alfredo deserved the man of the match. He definitely gets my vote.
“His all-round game was good. I thought his focus was really strong. “When you’ve got that talent and you approach the game in the right way, then your numbers are always going to come right.
“He got a good assist, so that’s two for the season, and two goals but I thought that his allround play fully deserved those numbers.”
