DONS PASS COVID TEST
THE rest of Aberdeen’s squad and coaching staff have been given the all-clear after the latest batch of Covid-19 testing. And the Dons are confident that Wednesday’s home clash with Hamilton will go ahead as
scheduled. There was a welcome sense of relief within Cormack Park when the tests all came back negative over the weekend.
The Pittodrie side had been caught up in the coronavirus crisis, as two of their players had tested positive and six others have had to self-isolate.
Eight Aberdeen players were out for a meal last Saturday night and then went into one of the bars at the centre of the Covid-19 outbreak in the Granite City.
Scott McKenna, Mikey Devlin, Dylan McGeouch, Craig Bryson, Matty Kennedy, Bruce Anderson, Jonny Hayes and Sam Cosgrove issued a public apology, in their own words, over the weekend for not adhering to the four-household rule.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has since imposed a local lockdown and later had a go at the Aberdeen players for breaking the return to football protocol.
Aberdeen’s weekend game at St Johnstone was postponed as a result.
Dons boss Derek McInnes has already called out his players in public and chairman has also said sorry to the authorities and his fellow club.
If the government and all the authorities are happy that the Aberdeen bubble is now safe then they are likely to return to action on Wednesday.
It would still leave boss McInnes with a major selection headache.
The Aberdeen manager will be without all eight players – although Cosgrove and Devlin were both injured – while Curtis Main is still not fit and Andrew Considine is also suspended.
All Premiership managers and captains will have a Zoom call with the government and members of the Joint Response Group tonight to remind them of their responsibilities.
