A MAN who allegedly stabbed his Scots mum to death had a history of alcoholism and mental health issues.

Carol Ann Cameron, 63, died after a blade attack at her home in Perth, Australia, on Monday.

The cancer nurse’s 27-year-old son, Callum Cameron, has been arrested in connection with her death and is under police guard.

Carol Ann, originally from Uphall, West Lothian, called paramedics to her home in Saint James in the early hours of the morning.

It’s believed her son was high on hallucinogenic drug DMT.

About 20 minutes after paramedics arrived, they watched in horror as Cameron allegedly stabbed his mother, before being tasered by police.

Carol Ann was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital but died at about 4am.

Cameron’s father was out of town on business at the time of the attack.

It’s since emerged that Cameron had a criminal history.

The web developer claimed he struggled with alcoholism, periods of homelessness and posttraumatic stress disorder.

Cameron spoke about his problems in an article for Daily Mail Australia two months ago.

He told of his first arrest in April 2014 after snatching a woman’s umbrella in Perth. He claimed after that arrest, he was strip-searched and “kerb stomped” by police in a humiliating ordeal that “still haunts his nightmares”.

Cameron said: “I was told to strip naked.

“Then, I was tripped on to my face by two of the auxiliary officers.

“A third auxiliary officer and the male police officer then pushed my head into the floor very firmly.

“One of them opened my bottom jaw so my two front teeth were resting on the grey concrete floor.” Cameron made the allegations to Western Australia’s police watchdog, the Corruption and Crime Commission, but it was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

Cameron was arrested over more than 12 incidents between 2015 and 2017. He spent periods sleeping rough, couch surfing and staying in backpacker hostels.

But he was living in a granny flat behind his parents’ house on the day of his mother’s death.

Carol Ann’s family in Scotland paid tribute to the “much-loved” health worker.

A statement read: “She travelled widely after leaving school and had lived in Australia since the 1970s.

“She was a much loved mother, partner, sister, auntie and friend, who worked as a nurse and had spent much of her career in cancer care.

“We are all devastated by what has happened.”
