KENT GOING NOWHERE

- BY SCOTT BURNS

RANGERS will send Leeds packing if they try to land Ryan Kent for £10million.

The Championship winners are long-term admirers of the winger and their manager Marcello Bielsa is keen to sign Kent in this window.

Reports from down south claim the Elland Road club are about to make a £10m offer.

Rangers have had no direct contact from the Premiership new boys

and are not aware of any pending bid. Steven Gerrard would be reluctant to sell the player, especially at the figures being mentioned. Kent is also happy at Ibrox and has no wish to leave.

Having paid £7m to sign Kent from Liverpool last summer, Rangers would be looking for a substantial profit.

Kent struggled to cope with his big-money price tag and also had injuries but at other times produced some magic.

The 23-year-old scored two goals in his first four games this term, leading to praise from Gerrard.

Speaking last week the Ibrox boss said: “Ryan had a mixed pre-season last year in terms of injuries and stuff. That certainly had an effect on his consistency and his form.

“He put in some top performances like Celtic away, Braga away, but at times he was quite quiet.

“He has come back in good shape this pre-season. He has had a full pre-season, he’s fit, he looks healthy and sharp.

“He has backed that up with the performances he has put in so far.”

Gerrard has always said every player has his price but Gers have shown with Alfredo Morelos if nobody meets their valuation they will stand firm.

Morelos had agreed terms with Lille but the French side were unable to agree a fee.

Greg Docherty is one player who is set to quit Rangers. Hull have agreed a £400,000 deal for the midfielder. The 23-year-old has done his medical and was thrashing out the final details last night.

Docherty is expected to sign a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months and the deal is expected to be announced today by the English League One side.
