We can turn it around
BRANDON HAUNSTRUP says winless Kilmarnock have no need to panic.
Alex Dyer’s side lost 2-0 at Ibrox and are now five games in without a victory.
They’re second bottom with just two points but Haunstrup reckons their performances have been better than their lowly position shows.
He said: “The league table is disappointing and we definitely should be higher than we are.
“Nobody is dwelling on it too much. We feel we should have picked up more points than we have so far and I’m sure things will soon turn for us.”
Kilmarnock take on Dundee United next week and Haunstrup knows it would be the perfect way to get that monkey off their back.
He said: “I would have come up against (Micky) Mellon when he was manager of Tranmere and I was at Portsmouth. But every game is different, the way you set up and play.
“We just need to dust ourselves down and to go again.”
Haunstrup reckons Kilmarnock’s fortunes were summed up by their Ibrox display – they were solid in the first half but didn’t have a cutting edge after they went behind.
And he said: “It was difficult. In the first half we were switched on and resilient and didn’t really give them too much, our defensive shape was good.
“It was exactly the sort of game plan you need in games like that, like we did against Celtic. You need to keep the ball for as long as possible.
“They had to wait until late on to get their second goal and when there is only one goal in it you always have a chance.
‘We probably didn’t create too many opportunities and that’s maybe the most disappointing thing.
“The second half we didn’t really come out . Fair play to Rangers, they came out quick and started well. From then on it was always going to be an uphill task.”
This marked the Englishman’s first start for Killie and now he’s looking to kick on.
Haunstrup added: “That was my full debut and I’ve felt ready to go whenever the gaffer has called upon me. My performance today was alright but the result was just a frustrating one to take.”
