Brave tot in charity drive

BATTLING Archie Galloway is determined to help others – even while fighting the biggest battle of his young life.

The three-year-old was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in March after it was first thought he had a bad case of tonsillitis.

His mum and dad Lisa, 42, and Andi, 43, of Bathgate, West Lothian, have supported him all the way, with his fireman dad shaving his head to match Archie’s during chemo. Five of Andi’s fire officer pals from Bo’ness station also shaved theirs in support.

BY VIVIENNE AITKEN and even more so since he was chosen to launch TK Maxx’s Give Up Clothes for Good campaign, in support of Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.

The family got the diagnosis on March 6 – the day before Archie’s wee sister Leah’s first birthday.

Archie had been feeling exhausted since November and had stopped eating properly. By Christmas, Archie was too unwell to even enjoy opening his presents, so Andi took him to hospital.

Lisa said: “When I got a call from Andi, I expected him to say Archie was OK and it was just a bad case of tonsillitis. But tests had shown up a blood disorder.“

After the diagnosis, Archie started chemo immediately but he faces three years of treatment to save his life.

Andi and Lisa know first-hand how important research is in helping to save more lives.

Lisa said: “It’s thanks to research that children like Archie are doing so well today. That’s why raising money for Cancer Research UK for Children & Young People is so important.” ● For more information visit cruk.org/ childrenandyoungpeople
