SHAKE YOUR BITS

Miss Voluptuous Miss Voluptuous wants Scots women to love their curves

- EXCLUSIVE BY SARAH VESTY sarah.vesty@reachplc.com

PLUS-SIZED beauty queen Kelly McNally is backing her younger sister to inherit her crown as Miss Voluptuous Scotland.

Kelly won the title in 2019 after impressing judges with her charity work and positive body confidence.

As the 44-year-old gets ready to hand over her crown in October, she is urging curvy girls to embrace their

“wobbly bits”. And she hopes that advice pays off for sister Jennifer Querns. Microbiologist Jennifer, 31, will compete for the title against about 30 women in defiance of the bullies who teased her about her size. She will be judged on her voluntary work, which relates to mental health, before stepping on to the catwalk during the contest, which has been running since 2017. Size-22 Kelly, a banking account manager, from Glasgow, said: “I joined in 2018 for my very first pageant but didn’t place. “I came back the WINNER Kelly last year

following year after working much harder than I had the previous year and I actually won it.

“My sister and I are probably total opposites. I’m the big, bolshy one whereas she’s very quiet and has been bullied all her life as well because she’s on the bigger side.

“Actually getting her to do something like this was a massive thing and she’ll get so much out of it as well.

“A lot of plus-size girls will tend to cover up their bodies because they don’t like certain bits but last year I went out on a limb.

“For my fun fashion round, I had a see-through jumpsuit with a swimming costume underneath it.

“Yes, I had bits that wobbled and things like that but I’ve now got to the stage that I’ve realised we’ve all got bits we don’t like, regardless of whether you’re a size zero or a size 24.

“It doesn’t really matter though, it’s all about the way you dress and act with your body.”

Kelly, who has worked as a plus-size model alongside lingerie tycoon Michelle Mone, has also competed against the champions of England, Wales and Ireland, and earned the chance to head to Nashville, Tennessee, next year for an international competition.

Kelly, who has helped homeless people in her spare time, will be at this year’s final on October 10 to support Jennifer.

She said: “Unfortunately, it is the case that people see what’s on the outside. They don’t see what’s on the inside and she’s such a beautiful girl with such a big heart.

“I’m just hoping that things work out for her and she gets to win the crown. I cannot think of anything better than actually standing on that stage with her.

“There will be tears anyway because it’s my handover but I will be a big blubbering mess if I’m able to crown my sister.

“I can’t tell you how immensely proud that would make me.”
