Dereliction of duty

Prince Philip furious over Harry’s US move for ‘life of self-centred celebrity’

THE Duke of Edinburgh believes Prince Harry committed a “dereliction of duty” by leaving the UK to pursue a celebrity lifestyle, according to a royal biographer.

Prince Philip is said to believe that Harry and wife Meghan had everything they could have wished for before opting for a “life of self- centred celebrity” across the Atlantic.

The couple, who have signed a Netflix deal, have flouted his belief in putting public duty first, according to a Ingrid Seward’s book Prince Philip Revealed: A Man of His Century.

She claims the Duke, 99, is exasperated by the behaviour of younger royals. Seward said: “He has struggled greatly, for example, with what he sees as his grandson Harry’s dereliction of duty, giving up his homeland and everything he cared about for a life of self-centred celebrity.”

Six months ago, Harry, 35, and Me g h a n , 39, stepped back from royal life, settling in the US with son Ar c h i e, on e . Seward added: “For a man whose entire existence has been based on a dedication to doing the right thing, it appeared that his grandson had abdicated his responsibilities for the sake of his marriage to an American divorcee in much the same way as Edward VIII gave up his crown to marry Wallis Simpson.”

The Duke is also said to be “troubled” by the behaviour of Prince Andrew, who “allowed himself to be seduced by the rich and powerful”, according to Seward.

Andrew’s association with convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein and his BBC interview turned him into a “global figure of r idicule”, she claimed.

Seward wrote: “For Philip and the Queen, their son’s failure of judgment was a

tragedy.”
