SPAIN’S ANSU TO THE CRITICS

-

ANSU FATI last night became Spain’s youngest ever scorer as Barcelona’s 17-year-old wonderkid helped dump Ukraine 4-0 in the Nations League.

Fati earned a penalty at the start of the game which led to Sergio Ramos giving Spain the lead from the spot in the third minute.

The Real Madrid stopper then added a second goal, heading home in the 29th minute, before Fati made it 3-0 in the 32nd minute with a superb strike.

Fati comfortably unseats the late Juan Errazquin, who had held the title as Spain’s youngest goalscorer for 95 years, scoring his first against Switzerland in 1925 at the age of 18 years and 344 days.

Barcelona forward Fati became his club’s youngest ever scorer in La Liga last year with a goal against Osasuna and also became the youngest scorer in the history of the Champions League by netting against Inter Milan in December.

The other clash in

League A, Group 1 saw a battling Switzerland hold Germany to a 1-1 draw.

Ilkay Gundogan gave Joachim Low’s side the perfect start when he scored a clinical goal in the 14th minute but Silvan Widmer earned their smaller neighbours a deserved draw with an equaliser before the hour.

In the end, Germany may have been grateful for the draw as the much livelier hosts created better chances.

The result also means that Germany failed to win any of their four games in the inaugural Nations League two years ago and have drawn their opening two games this time.

In League C, Group 3 it was delight for the Greeks as they saw off Kosovo 2-1.

Dimitris Limnios gave the visitors the lead inside the opening two minutes

And Dimitris Slovas added a second in 51 minutes with Bernard Berisha making it a nervy finish.
