If you go into the woods today..
JUDE Law and Naomie Harris star in this intensely creepy psychological thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.
It’s told over six episodes in two distinct but interconnected halves.
“Summer” follows Sam (Law) after he’s drawn to a mysterious island off the British coast.
“Winter” follows Helen (Harris) who also comes to the island seeking answers but whose arrival kickstarts a fractious battle.
It starts with Summer and Sam shouting into the phone, completely distressed.
“How are you going to explain £40,000 in cash to the police?” he yells.
Then he heads down to a river and sobs hysterically by a waterfall, before dropping a little black and white T-shirt into the water. There are lots of wobbly camera shots and close-ups, and for at least 10 minutes you won’t have any idea what’s going on.
A shocking and strange incident in the woods won’t help you to clarify anything but it’s gripping and eerie.
Sam ends up heading across a causeway to an island where the residents have very strict ideas about things and trouble seems to be brewing. Emily Watson and Paddy Considine are brilliant as strange pub landlords on the island.
From bugs crawling out of bugs, to a mysterious little boy who keeps running away, not to mention an increasingly tense home situation for Sam and some nightmarish scenes that may be real or imagined, it’s all building up to some inevitable nightmare.
Don’t watch alone.
