FAST WERNER

Timo makes a Bright start in Chelsea victory

-

TIMO WERNER quickly unleashed the turbo jets and gave Chelsea a glimpse of the future.

The German’s blistering pace, acceleration and power exposed Brighton’s defence and showed the Blues will be one of the great entertainers in the Premier League this season.

A wonder goal for Reece James, a glimpse of exciting new Blues signings and familiar defensive frailties, plus dodgy keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with another howler.

This is going to be a whiteknuckle ride for Chelsea and their fans when it might just be trying to go all out to score one more than the opposition.

You have to feel sorry for Brighton because they were excellent, did not deserve to lose and new signing Adam Lallana limped off injured after only 44 minutes.

But you have to give credit to the Seagulls because this was a serious test for Chelsea as young right-back Tariq Lamptey was outstanding again, Ben White excellent at centre- half, and they will definitely be better this season.

So for Chelsea to leave the AmEx with all three points will be a boost for Frank Lampard as he knows the pressure is on after his £200million summer

JOHN CROSS AT AMEX STADIUM spending spree. Werner and Kai Havertz were the only new boys to start but they looked good and will make a big difference this term.

Hot prospect Havertz was less direct and dynamic than Werner but there were nice touches of class. Werner is already established and you could see why after 21 minutes. Brighton midfielder Steve

Alzate’s clumsy square pass fell to Jorginho whose slick firsttime ball sent Werner away.

The Germany str iker sprinted clear, rounded Brighton keeper Mat Ryan, only to be pulled back for an obvious penalty. Up stepped Jorginho to send Ryan the wrong way.

Brighton levelled after 54 minutes. Chelsea were pressed backwards and Lamptey’s assist set up Leandro Trossard who unleashed a diagonal 20-yard shot that squirmed under Arrizabalaga’s dive.

But Chelsea took 100 seconds to draw level. James bolted forward and from 25 yards out smashed home his first Premier League goal.

The Blues added a third when James took a right-wing corner and Kurt Zouma smashed a shot towards goal. It took a big deflection off Adam Webster and wrongfooted Ryan.
