Hyundai’s new tech on the Tucson SUV

-

HYUNDAI has revealed its new Tucson mid-sized SUV – with futuristic looks to match its sophisticated technology.

The Korean car maker says experimental, cutting-edge design methods have resulted in a car with prominent geometric patterns it calls “parametic jewels”.

This includes daytime running lights that blend with the large grille when turned off but are striking when the car hits the road. Deep body cuts and a flowing silhouette are a feature of the profile, along with a chrome accent line separating the roof and windows.

On the rear, wide tail lamps with parametric hidden light details continue the design theme.

Traditional switchgear is dispensed with in a clutter-free interior that centres around a 10.25in colour screen with touch-sensitive controls for various functions below it.

Along with vastly improved connectivity and ever-so intelligent sat nav, there’s also a fully digital, configurable 10.25in screen in front of the driver in place of the more traditional instrument cluster.

Customers are also promised high-quality, soft-touch materials throughout and a more effective air con system in a roomier cabin, with a boot space of up to 620 litres.

An abundance of driver safety features includes advanced frontal, blind-spot and rear cross-traffic collision avoidance systems, and even a semi-autonomous driving system.

Four-wheel-drive capability and terrain modes are also options, while powerplant include a wide range of petrol and diesel mild hybrid, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid choices.

The new Tucson is due to go on sale later this year – with prices still to be announced.

Hyundai’s boss in Europe, Michael Cole, said: “With its progressive design and state-ofthe-art powertrain line-up, the all-new Tucson will remain one of our key products.”
