Agent says Real Madrid should be ‘kissing Bale’s feet’ and insists the star had no option but to quit the Bernabeu

- BY DARREN LEWIS

GARETH BALE’S agent has savaged Real Madrid – insisting the Spanish champions should have been “kissing the winger’s feet” for his service to the club.

Jonathan Barnett, his long- time representative, has slammed critics questioning whether his star man – winner of four Champions Leagues – can still perform in the Premier League and lashed out at Bale’s treatment at the hands of Real.

Bale has also lifted 13 major trophies, including two La Liga titles, and is the top scoring British player in La Liga - with 80 goals and 40 assists in 171 league outings.

Barnett said: “This country should be very proud of him, Great Britain should be very proud of him. Stop knocking him and write what he’s done and what he’s achieved.

“It’s very annoying, and it’s the same with Real Madrid and what he’s achieved for them. They should be kissing the floor he walks on.”

Bale, 31, is expected to be fit for Spurs for their October 17 clash at home to West Ham following his loan return.

Speaking on Talksport’s Sports Bar show, Barnett added: “[Bale leaving Real] was a build up of clash of personalities, a build up of not being supported, it was many different things.

“For somebody who has done as well as he has for Real Madrid, he didn’t get the respect he deserved and that was a big problem.”

If Barnett gets his way, Bale will never step foot in the Bernabeu again. Instead, he suggested his client could even remain at Spurs. Bale has a one-year loan deal with the option for a second year which would take him to the final year of his Real contract.

Barnett said: “Hopefully the subject [of returning] won’t come up. He’ll be so successful at Tottenham he’ll want to stay and it will be a simple deal to do the rest.

“This is the club he wants to play at. I don’t see any problems if he wants another year.”

His final few seasons were ravaged by injuries while sections of Real’s support booed him and boss Zinedine Zidane, said it “would be best for everyone” if Bale left in 2019.

Barnett added: “In my opinion, he wasn’t treated correctly for somebody who’s done so much for a great club. I think that things were wrong.

“I don’t want to blame anybody or go into it. I think what the fans did was disgraceful and the club didn’t help. That’s all I really want to get into.”
