STEVEN GERRARD received the Hotline treatment as callers accused the Rangers boss of hiding behind excuses.

It appears sitting top of the Premiership provides no immunity from the critics who took the former Liverpool star to task for his comments after drawing with Hibs.

Robert Montgomery Kirkconnel, said: “It’s time all the Rangers fans stopped crying into their cornflakes and addressed the real problem, their team’s inability to kill off games. If you don’t take your chances there’s always the likelihood of teams coming back into the game and sneaking a draw.

“Gerrard knows this but after dropping points at Hibs he gives every excuse under the sun for his team’s bad performance. Come on Stevie, you’re better than that.”

Tam Mcbrearty, Dumbarton, said: “It’s my 80th birthday today so I have earned the right to be a grumpy old git but I’m fed up with Gerrard’s constant moaning about refereeing decisions and how there’s an agenda against Rangers. When he’s winning it’s fine but as soon as points drop there is always someone else to blame.”

Gerard Kelly said: “Rangers fans are back on the Hotline talking about Celtic yet again. They must be running scared as I notice that when they lose or draw, Gerrard blames everybody with the exception of himself. It’s time to get the violin out.”

Scott Gowers, Edinburgh, said: “Scottish referees are clearly officiating Rangers games with a different rule book. Players can assault our players off the ball and only get a yellow card without compliance officer intervention. Normally where an official brandishes a card, the incident is deemed dealt with however Rangers players have had yellow cards upgraded with compliance officer intervention. I believe this to be the reason VAR is not in the Scottish game as Rangers would have a more commanding lead at the top.”

Scott Cassidy, Bridgeton, said: “Rangers need to go and get Ryan Porteous from Hibs. He and Paul Hanlon noised our players up from the first whistle and that’s something our team needs. Our backline hasn’t been tested all season but it was on Sunday and look what happened.”

Robert McEwan, Mount Vernon, said: “Celtic are getting better every week and the fact is that other teams in our league are not that great. Neil Lennon’s may have dropped down a level or two but think it will be business as usual title wise.”

Brian Grant said: “In reply to Hotline caller George Wilson’s criticism of Scott Brown, his comments are an embarrassment and I’d point him in the direction of our captain’s trophy cabinet.”

Steve McSherry, Uddingston, said: “If George Wilson ever has something sensible to say I will be amazed. His utter nonsense about Rangers being better than Celtic and Brown never being much good shows how little he actually knows about the game.”

Tony Bennett said: “A wee message for anyone criticising Brown. Be careful what you wish for because our leader, legend and captain will stroll his way to 10.”

Edward Fraser said: “I don’t understand the Celtic fans having a pop at the players they feel are underperforming. We are unbeaten in the league and only one point behind Rangers with a game in hand.

“The only thing I’m not pleased about is the chopping and changing. Lennon needs to pick a first XI and stick to it unless there are injuries, other than that, I’m a relatively happy Celtic supporter.”
