Police slam ‘risky’ stunt which left onlookers at tourist site stunned
TWO morons who climbed to the top of the Kelpies before sitting in one of the giant horse sculpture’s nostrils for a picture have been slammed by police.
Officers arrested the two men, aged 21 and 22, and said they had “put their own lives at risk” as well as causing a potentially dangerous build-up of traffic on the nearby M9.
Nail-biting video footage obtained by the Record captures the moment a climber reaches the 100ft summit of one of the iconic structures.
The scenes were apparently shot at about 6.30pm on Saturday.
A climber’s trainer-clad feet can be seen clambering up the metallic structure.
A panoramic sweep takes in the setting sun as the M9 stretches far below.
The popular tourist attraction’s visitor centre is also clearly visible.
Beyond it, the fading light of the sun can be seen glinting off the River Carron.
Pictures of the stunt were taken by shocked onlookersookers at the popular ar tourist site.
Emergency cy services racedd to the scene at Helix elix Park shortly after 6.30pm amid mi d reports of two men standingg on top of one of the horse heads. Police Scotland confirmed two culprits were charged with culpable and reckless conduct.
Crews from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service were also called to the scene but were stood down a short time later.
A police spokeswoman said: “Our officers responded to reports of two males climbing one of The Kelpies.
“As a result, two males aged 21 and 22 have been charged with culpable and reckless conduct.
“A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.
“Not only did the individuals put their own lives at risk but their actions caused significant resources to be deployed and impacted directly on traffic along the M9.
“Thankfully the caution of road users avoided any significant incidents on the road network.”
Social media users expressed their anger when pictures of the stunt appeared app online.
