FROZEN OUT

England’s Iceland bad boys Greenwood and Foden are snubbed by Southgate

- BY JOHN CROSS

ENGLAND’S Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood are set to be left out in the cold after their Iceland shame.

Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate names his squad for the triple-header with Wales, Denmark and Belgium tomorrow and is expected to snub the pair.

Southgate has also yet to make contact with either player, although he may opt to speak to them before announcing his squad to explain his reasoning.

England new ew boys Foden and Greenwood were sent home in disgrace from Iceland after video footage on social media showed them with female guests in their hotel rooms, despite being under strict quarantine.

Southgate was left fuming with the duo and publicly slated them before admitting they will have to regain his “trust”.

The incident raised question marks over dressing-room discipline during Southgate’s reign after Kyle Walker broke rules during lockdown, while Raheem Sterling also had a bust-up with Joe Go mez in November Nov 2019.

The T manager will wil be anxious ttoo rea ss e r t authority au on his squad sq even though th Foden and an Greenwood w are two of England’s best young prospects.

Manchester United star Greenwood has been back in the fold at Old Trafford and his club boss Ole Gunnar Solakjaer has been publicly critical of both Southgate and the FA’s handling of the affair.

Foden has also returned to his best form with Manchester City despite their patchy start to the league season.

However, Southgate must be aware that he will have to send a message about the importance of discipline even ahead of important matches at Wembley and the fact that the two players are the future of his national side.

England play Wales in a friendly a week tomorrow while the other games are Nations League qualifiers.
