LEWIS FERGUSON netted a stoppage-time winner to sicken St Mirren and cap a remarkable comeback for the Dons.

It was rough justice on St Mirren, who more than deserved a point only to be undone at the death.

The Premiership’s bottom side must feel the gods are against them – even after Ethan Erhahon’s brilliant goal had given them the lead only for Marley Watkins’ second in two games to cancel it out.

It is now six consecutive defeats for the Buddies.

There was a surprise ahead of kick-off as it was revealed St Mirren had agreed a transfer fee to sell their skipper Kyle Magennis to Hibs.

Boss Jim Goodwin stated the decision was taken out of his hands and he made his point by naming only four subs with no defenders among them.

Aberdeen were keen to get an early grip on proceedings.

Tommie Hoban’s long ball allowed Watkins to rush up the left but keeper Jak Alnwick was able to block.

Jonny Hayes saw a shot blocked by Alnwick and Marcus Fraser was brave to

SCOTT BURNS AT PITTODRIE stop Niall McGinn’s follow-up. Then Scott Wright squared to Ferguson and he fired in a low shot that Alnwick tipped wide.

The Buddies had a decent spell of their own around the half hour.

Lee Erwin’s flicked header released Jon Obika but Hoban made a sliding challenge to divert the ball wide.

Conor McCarthy went into the book for a late challenge on Ferguson just before the interval, while Erwin fired just over the top.

After the break Aberdeen pushed forward but it was Saints who claimed a sublime opener in the 54th minute.

Cammy MacPherson played a pass to Erhahon who from 25 yards cracked a shot into the top corner.

Dons boss Derek McInnes knew he had to change things and sent on Connor McLennan as well as Ryan Edmondson.

It worked as Ryan Hedges played the ball into McLennan and Edmondson teed it up for loan man Watkins to sweep a low shot into the net.

McInnes went man for man at the back in search of a winner and his gamble paid off in style.

The winner arrived when Hayes came off the wing to find Ferguson and he fired a low shot past an unsighted Alnwick at the goalie’s near post for his sixth goal of the season.

TOMMIE HOBAN was a calming influence in the Aberdeen defence and always tried to get forward to support.

It probably would have been a St Mirren player had they not left with nothing.
