Rooney dossier aims to prove Rebekah ‘leaked stories’
COLEEN Rooney has filed a 55-page court dossier she claims proves that Rebekah Vardy leaked stories about her in return for press coverage.
The bombshell document was lodged ahead of a showdown with Vardy, who has brought a libel case to clear her name.
COLEEN Rooney claims rival WAG Rebekah Vardy sat behind her at Euro 2016 to boost her own profile – and that her guests “abused” staff when told to move.
The claim was made in a document seen by the Mirror and submitted by Coleen to the High Court in her defence after Rebekah launched defamation proceedings against her. She also claimed that Rebekah: Set up pap shots of the wives and girlfriends during the 2018 World Cup without their knowledge;
Was the “Secret Wag” columnist who leaked private information about the wives of well-known footballers;
Was accused by Sarah Harding of taking intrusive photographs of her without her consent at the National Television Awards in 2018;
Had form on private information, once telling an interview Peter Andre was “hung like a small chipolata”.
Coleen, 34, was dubbed “Wagatha Christie” last year when she publicly claimed Rebekah’s Instagram account was leaking stories about her. Rebekah denied leaking stories.
Coleen claimed to have posted false tales to see if any would be published. Her post last year claimed the bogus stories were only seen by one fol lower, concluding: “It’s . . . Rebekah Vardy’s account.”
Rebekah’s lawyers say the post meant she had “consistently and repeatedly” betrayed Coleen’s trust over several years by leaking her “private and personal” Instagram posts, which she denies.
Rebekah, 38, is seeking substantial damages for libel, claiming the posts by Coleen last October linking leaks to her resulted in her suffering “severe and extreme hostility and abuse”.
Coleen’s defence went into detail about the fake “sting operation stories” which Coleen says she planted – including one about her basement flooding, her desire to return to TV and wanting to try gender selection for her next baby. She supplied three pictures from Instagram posts to back up her claim.
Other tales Coleen claims were leaked by Rebekah from her private Instagram account include a post in September 2017 of photos of her first three kids and the text “no matter where I am they always follow me, and I hope that lasts forever”.
A story then appeared alleging: “Wayne Rooney fears his marriage is over as pregnant wife Coleen storms out of their £4million mansion and takes the kids.” A story was also published about a car crash, which Coleen claims was obtained via her private account. Coleen suspected Rebekah and deleted her as a follower on Instagram, the defence claims. After Rebekah asked via WhatsApp why she had been deleted, Coleen let her follow her again.
The alleged leaks continued. The document claims in return Rebekah got glowing coverage enabling her to “financially exploit her public profile”.
The defence also accuses Rebekah of setting up a paparazzi shot of her fellow WAGs on a night out in St Petersburg at the 2018 World Cup.
And it claims she worked for The Sun to produce a “behind the scenes” video at the National Television Awards in 2018, when it says Sarah Harding accused her of taking intrusive photographs without her consent.
The papers also accuse Rebekah of being The Sun’s Secret Wag columnist.
Coleen’s spokesman said: “Coleen has always been confident of her position, although she takes no pleasure in now having to set out in public court documents the reasons why. It remains a matter of deep regret to her that Rebekah seems determined to persist with court action despite Coleen’s offers of private mediation.”
It came after Rebekah told Good Morning Britain: “I want to clear my name. I will do whatever it takes.”
She has previously claimed several people had access to her Instagram account.
