MARC WARREN aims to maintain n his Renaissance as he heads s for Wentworth confident of delivering another sublime show.

The Glaswegian continued his superb return since lockdown with a tied-fourth finish at the ASI Scottish Open to add to his win at the Austrian Open as he keeps battling back towards his best. Warren savoured his week on the East Lothian track and is full of hope the Rolex Series showpiece will be staying on the same site going forward. At the moment, negotiations are taking place over a new agreement being found between Aberdeen Standard Investments, the Scottish Government and the European Tour, with the deals in place for Scotland’s flagship Tour event having expired. Next year’s venue has yet to be confirmed but Warren hopes the success of The Renaissance Club in its normal summer slot for 2019 and this year’s rescheduled autumn date will see the tournament staying put and relations extended.

He said: “Hopefully Aberdeen Standard can continue their support. The event has grown so much since they took over.

“Obviously it was tougher this year with no crowds but it’s such a big event, getting bigger and better and I’d love to see that continue. “I like the venue, especially with the owners at The Renaissance. They are willing to do everything and anything. If the European Tour want them to do something, they’ll do it to the standard they are seeking. “They’ve been unlucky with weather for the past two years. The course on Monday and Tuesday last week was absolutely perfect. “You couldn’t ask for anything more out of links golf and then to get the amount of rain we had on Wednesday night, Thursday morning and then Saturday made it softer on Sunday.

“Hopefully it continues to be at The Renaissance and that ASI continue their support as well.”

Warren can’t control such decisions but he is in the box seat when it comes to mastering his own destiny and he’s now gearing up for part two of the Rolex Series double-header south of the border with even more confidence.

The BMW PGA Championships at Wentworth is another huge event in the post-Covid calendar and the 39-year-old heads down the M74 believing his game and his body are in the right shape.

Warren’s display at the Scottish Open saw him rocket 61 places up to 38th in the Race to Dubai standings to add to the meaty cheque of over £200,000 which rattled into the bank account.

Mind and muscles are in terrific condition for the challenge in Surrey and he’s got previous on the terrain having fought his way into a play-off in the event in 2013 before losing out in a three-man shootout against Simon Khan and Matteo Manassero.

Warren said: “Wentworth is a course where I have done well in the past and it’s another massive event.

“Last week was such a good one for me. Playing so many different weather conditions just shows every department of your game is in good shape.

“It was a tough field and to be in contention at the end after being on a tough side of the draw, I’m just really proud that the work I’m putting into my game is getting me better and better.”
