No crush landing for Andy and Scott
STEVEN REID has backed Scotland to help Andy Robertson and Scott McTominay get over the shock of the hammerings they took with their clubs at the weekend.
Scotland captain Robbo was part of the Liverpool defence that shipped seven goals to John McGinn’s Aston Vi l l a , whi l e McTominay’s Manchester United were thrashed 6-1 at home by Spurs.
Both shell-shocked stars have travelled north to join Steve Clarke’s squad ahead of Thursday’s crucial Euro semi-final play-off with Israel, fol lowed by a Nations League double header with Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and Scotland coach Reid is adamant they’ll be ready.
The former Republic of Ireland international said: “The last few weeks in general have been incredible, with some of the scorelines and results.
“I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s just one of those bizarre weekends where the results are crazy.
“I’m sure when we all get together, it’ll be Scotland mode and looking forward to the three games we’ve got coming up.
“When I’ve been involved in international games as a player, you’ve put to bed your club results as soon as you head into camp.
“Luckily for those boys it’s games that are coming thick and fast, which is what you want after results like that.
“Sometimes in these international breaks, if you’re not involved in the fixtures, it can be a long break before you get the chance to get a decent result back on board.
“They’ll be fine. There might be a bit of banter when we get together.”
