But according to sources in France they extended his contract by a year to ensure they receive a transfer fee.

“We have monitored this situation all summer and now feel it’s the right time. Our board have been very supportive throughout the window with seven new signings.

Celta Vigo and Strasbourg were interested in Zungu earlier in the transfer window with Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor and Olympiakos making late contact.
But Liverpool-daft Zungu was desperate to sign for his idol Gerrard
Zungu, who turns 28 next week, has been capped 29 times for South Africa and has spent the last three years in the French top flight with Amiens who he joined after a season with Portuguese club Guimaraes.
Zungu told the club’s website: “The chance to play for such a big club, especially in European competitions, is very exciting for me.
