Star eyes homecoming and insists he’ll turn form around after his split from coach

JUSTIN ROSE is coming home as part of his post-40 career plan – but his wife will decide when.

The Bahamas-based Olympic champion has revealed how he underwent a “re- evaluation” during lockdown and is now working to a “bigger plan”.

Rose’s summer split with long-time coach Sean Foley has seen the former world No.1 slide down the rankings to No.23 after missing the cut in five of his last seven events.

But the 2013 US Open champion said the changes will continue with a move back to the UK now “on the cards” once his missus Kate gives it the final go-ahead.

Before teeing up in today’s BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, Rose said: “It’s been a crazy year and it’s great to be home. It’s not all been doom and gloom and I feel like I’m working on ultimately a bit of a bigger plan and prize at the end of it all.

“Patience wise, it’s been tested for sure.

“I’m trying to think about what’s going to move the needle in my career and for me it’s winning the right tournaments, the Majors I haven’t won yet.

“The Masters is down the road and I get two opportunities at that within the next six months.

“We’re in the transition of spending more and more time in the UK and thinking about what’s good for the kids long-term.

“As you get older, touching 40, it’s a re- evaluation. I always believe in making the best decision you can at the time with about a 10-year view, trying to work in 10-year blocks, and that’s how I have treated my career.

“I was in Orlando for 10 years, the Bahamas 10 ten years, and there could be a new phase coming. It’s something we are in the transition of figuring out.

“Timelines have been brought up with Covid-19.

“My son Leo is over here in boarding school, so to get to see him more regularly is important to us.

“Mrs Rose is the boss of all of this stuff, so if she says go, it gets done. I think it’s on the cards for sure.

“I still have Sean Foley around me, who I can consult with if I have a question.

“That’s the way I treat it. If I have a question, go to someone and get the relevant answer, but to take a little bit more ownership of things myself.

“It hasn’t worked out yet but these things don’t always happen immediately.

“The last couple days there’s been some lightbulb moments and it’s a blend of some of the new things I’ve learned along the way and some of the old blueprints under Sean.

“You always see results on the range before you see it on the golf course but I feel positive and motivated at the moment.

“I’m enjoying my golf and my practise, so you can only hope that does lead to good stuff .”

Defending champion Danny Willett W also comes into the e vent ve on a run of poor form.

The 2016 Masters winner has missed m the cut in his last five starts, st and said: “My game has not n been in an amazing place.

“It’s nice to be back here and get ge a few nice vibes of how things went w last year.

“We’re working hard and will see se if we can get a little bit of form back ba and put up a little bit of a fight fig this week.”
