A TERRIFIED mum was locked in a kitchen while her 19-year-old son was stabbed by a gang of intruders.

The 45- year- old was forced to listen as the gang set about her son and left him with serious injuries, i n c l u d i ng a punctured liver, two abdominal wounds, one to each buttock and his thigh.

Detectives have launched an investigation and are treating the incident, which happened in Edinburgh on Wednesday just before 9pm, as attempted murder.

Police sources said the drama kicked off when the victim and his brother were involved in a fight near to their home in Muirhouse with four youths.

Their mum ushered them into the house but shortly after, the four suspects broke in through a bedroom window and overpowered her. A source said: “The mother was pushed into the kitchen and the door held shut while her son was stabbed multiple times. It must have been a terrifying ordeal and it’s imperative we find out who the youths are.”

The source added: “The victim has suffered multiple injuries which are serious. He was stabbed more than five times before the gang took off.”

Po l i c e Sc o t l a n d immediately launched a manhunt for the gang and the force helicopter was deployed.

They revealed yesterday that the victim was rushed to hospital, where his condition is described as “serious”.

Detective Sergeant Rory Legge said: “Our inquiries are continuing into this incident and we have been gathering CCTV from the local area to help us establish the identity of the four men responsible.”
