Jim Wyllie, Edinburgh, said: “Robbie Neilson and Craig Gordon should realise that Steve Clarke is the coach who picks the Scotland squad.

“The promotion of Steven Naismith, who has played only a handful of games in a year, and Gordon, who has not played top-class football for even longer, is wrong. Both players had their chances for Scotland in unsuccessful campaigns and should allow Clarke to do his own business of blending on-form players with younger ones.”

Playing Ryan Edwards instead of Mark Reynolds in the defeat to Peterhead is mind-boggling. Mellon will not be at Tannadice for much longer.”
