QUOTE OF THE DAY

-

‘Scotland, Israel, Slovakia and the Czechs all have players with Covid. It’s time for the SFA to end this farce and put people first ’ said: “It was a victory for Scotland against Israel but nothing to write home about.

“Israel were the better team and we were fortunate to reach the play-off final. I can’t see us doing much against Serbia the way they played and another penalty shoot-out might be the most we can hope for.

“Eli Dasa of Israel gave our captain Andy Robertson a torrid time and any other left-back couldn’t have coped with this guy. However, it’s a play-off final now and hopefully we will end our long wait.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “The result was better than the performance against Israel and Scotland are 90 minuets from the Euros but have a shoot-out with Serbia. Hopefully, Steve Clarke can have his big guns firing and hopefully not blanks.”

Bob Shearer emailed: “Scotland, Israel, Slovakia and the Czech Republic all have players with Covid-19 and this will inevitably feed back to clubs.

“It’s time for the SFA to grow a pair by putting people first and ending this farce.”

Jim Wyllie, Edinburgh, said: “Robbie Neilson and Craig Gordon should realise that Steve Clarke is the coach who picks the Scotland squad.

“The promotion of Steven Naismith, who has played only a handful of games in a year, and Gordon, who has not played top-class football for even longer, is wrong. Both players had their chances for Scotland in unsuccessful campaigns and should allow Clarke to do his own business of blending on-form players with younger ones.”

Back to club business and Kenny Goff emailed: “Micky Mellon is out his depth at Dundee United and hasn’t a clue when things go wrong. A lot of fans are unhappy. Playing Ryan Edwards instead of Mark Reynolds in the defeat to Peterhead is mind-boggling. Mellon will not be at Tannadice for much longer.”
