Hoops-daft superstar gets an emotional surprise as club supporters rs make a music video as a pick-me-up while the stands remain emptyty
SIR Rod Stewart has admitted he cried when he saw a video of Celtic fans singing one of his songs, Hold The Line. The Hoops-daft superstar, 75, was surprised by Celtic Football Club with the video, which was made as a pick-me-up during the coronavirus pandemic. Rod told his favourite paper: “When I first saw this video, it brought a tear to my eye. We need a
song like this to get through these troubled times.
“What a beautiful surprise. Thank you to the Celtic family.
“I pray that we’ll be back filling the stands one of these days, but until then we’ll Hold The Line.”
The song from 2015 includes the lyrics: “I know lately everything seems crazy… Sometimes we’re lost and astray, and the hope far away. Hold the line, we’ll survive.”
Among the fans in the video are Line of Duty actor Martin Compston and music producer John McLaughlin.
Celtic supporter liaison officer John Paul Taylor said: “It was easy to find fans willing to give up their time for Rod. He is a real favourite with a great many Celtic fans.”
Captain Scott Brown said: “It is great to see Celtic fans getting behind this and sharing such an important message during such difficult times.
“I would have done my bit if I was a better singer…”
Among the young fans who joined in was Rocco cco McMonigle, 12, who is doing oing keepie-ups while his mum Frances, dad Steven and sister Maya, 16, sit on his bed singing along.
Frances said: “We hadd a great time doing it. Rodd is some man. He does so much uch for the Celtic Foundation on and other charities.”
