Madness of king Greg

PICK of the DAY

-

C4, 9pm CRASH landing onto its new home on Channel 4 after nine seasons on Dave, it’s only right that this brilliant, bonkers show reaches a wider audience.

For anyone who has never had the pleasure of seeing it, this is an idiotic, infinitely funny game show that sees five funny people attempt ludicrous tasks.

They are competing to win the fickle praises of the Taskmaster, who is none other than man-mountain Greg Davies.

“I will pass judgement from this, a magnificent throne,” says Greg, whose job is to lord it over everyone and dole out points in a haphazard and often unfair manner. He is assisted by his subservient sidekick – who in real life is the brains behind the entire operation – “Little” Alex Horne.

Alex creates the imaginative tasks and spends lots of time making notes, recording statistics and hoping for the odd kind word from the Taskmaster.

The comedian contestants have varied in their levels of creative genius over the years, but one thing that always remains constant is the banter between Greg and Alex.

This season’s lambs to the slaughter are Daisy May Cooper, Johnny Vegas, Katherine Parkinson, Mawaan Rizwan and Richard Herring.

After 10 episodes, only one will walk away with the grand prize of a creepy golden bust of Greg’s head.

Kicking things off is the personal possession prize round, which is like a deranged show and tell. This time, they bring “the nicest thing to put in your mouth”.

Later, they have to get to grips with gigantic teddies, flying eggs and making something “properly vanish”.

It all goes about as well as you’d expect.
