RICHIE’S KID HAS AN EAGLE EYE

- BY CRAIG SWAN

RICHIE RAMSAY needs eagles at St Andrews to satisfy his four-year-old daughter Olivia.

The Scot pegs it up at the Scottish Championship looking to challenge for the title.

But he’s under pressure to produce special moments for the little one too following his tied 20th at Wentworth.

The 37-year-old said: “She understands when I’m going away and hopefully when she gets a little older she’ll understand I’m doing it for the right reasons. But it’s still not easy. You don’t really want her to see your suitcase because she realises you’re going.

“The biggest pressure I had last week was I hadn’t made an eagle the whole week and for some reason Olivia loves the fact I can make an eagle.

“She’s like, ‘Birdies are good dad but eagles are the best’. I’m coming down the last, I’ve got a curling 12-foot putt and the only thing I can think of is not, ‘This will get me up the Race to Dubai, this will make me more money.’

“I’m thinking, ‘I haven’t made an eagle the whole week and if I could make one on the last hole it would make her day’ because she doesn’t care if I shoot 86 or 66, it’s just ‘eagle’.

“That’s the first thing she will say. I missed it. It’s the most disappointed I was all week.”

Ramsay has savoured time with family this year and added: “Basically in lockdown, when everybody was buying nets, I thought, ‘I’d better buy a net.’

“But I thought to myself, ‘Hold on a minute, this is my off-season so let’s not practise that much and spend a lot of quality time at home.’ I got all that.”
