Governments must pull together to protect us
THERE is no question that we’re getting a bit weary with all the restrictions that are being imposed on the way we live our lives.
All of the Governments in the UK are finding it really difficult to navigate the best path through the current troubled waters, and to ensure that the restrictions they are introducing keep as many of us as safe as we can be, while at the same time trying to allow us to do as much as we can to carry on with some sort of meaningful life.
It’s not easy for any of them but I can’t help thinking that if they all spent a bit more time talking to each other they might come up with some rules that are clearer for us all, and that will make us more accepting of what it is that they are trying to do.
Last week, for example, the Scottish Government introduced new rules meaning that cafes, bars and restaurants in much of the country had to close, or at least amend drastically the way they work.
This has huge implications for the finances of all of the staff who work in these businesses, as well as the owners.
The day after the Scottish Government’s announcement, the Chancellor of the UK announced a package that was designed to help anyone whose business had to close, including everyone affected by the Scottish Government’s announcement.
Surely it would have been more reassuring for all of those affected by the Scottish Government’s announcement if they had known what support was going to be available before they were told their businesses would have to close, even if that closure is only going to be for a couple of weeks?
It’s clear that there are many people suffering financially at the moment, and it’s likely that this situation is going to get worse as more businesses close and more employees lose their jobs.
It’s more important than ever that the Governments work together to make sure that we are all protected financially from these changes.
