Serbia boss has Scot to work out a way to win

- BY ALAN MARSHALL

LJUBISA TUMBAKOVIC admits he’s got Scotland on his mind.

The Serbia boss has been impressed by Steve Clarke’s side ahead of the crunch Euro 2020 showdown in Belgrade next month.

The Scots’ eight- game unbeaten run has given the Serbja chief food for thought as he tries to plot a way to end it.

Tumbakovic, whose side let a 2-0 lead slip as they drew 2-2 in Turkey in the Nations League on Wednesday, said: “All that matters is the game against Scotland.

“Scotland are in good form and we have to take them extremely seriously.

“They are not easy to beat and we know that.

“The serious scouting has started. They will be studied in full depth.

“I admit the Nations League is important but it’s not even close to being as important as the game against the Scots.

“It was disappointing to lose a two-goal lead. We were great in the first half, although we fell away in the second half and let our performance drop.

“But it all helps towards the preparation for what awaits us in November and qualifying for the Euros.

“This team has the desire and discipline to qualify. I know this for certain.”

Serbia’s stars have an extra incentive for beating Scotland after it was revealed they will pocket £90,000 each if they make it to the Euros for the first time since 2000.

Then, when they were still Serbia and Montenegro, they reached the quarter-finals in Holland and Belgium before being knocked out.

Serbia’s largest national newspaper, Politik, has revealed that each squad player has already banked £ 23,000 following their nerve-shredding 2-1 win over Norway in the play-off semis.

Now they can cash in again by finishing the job.
