Barisic back from injury and ready to play his part

- BY MARK McDOUGALL

STEVEN GERRARD has been handed a major Old Firm boost after Borna Barisic came through Croatia’s clash with France unscathed.

The Rangers left-back had missed two games against Switzerland and Sweden but Record Sport understands he was rested as a precaution.

He then played 90 minutes against France on Wednesday night and will be available for the Celtic Park showdown.

Barisic limped off during Gers’ last game after taking a knock to his shin in the 2-0 win over Ross County just before the international break.

Now Ibrox boss Gerrard will have no worries about him ahead of tomorrow’s big match.

Barisic couldn’t stop Croatia losing 2-1 to France in a rerun of the 2018 World Cup Final.

Antoine Griezmann had opened the scoring for the away side early on before former Everton midfielder Nikola Vlasic got an equaliser.

But Croatia’s joy was shortlived as PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe stepped up to grab the winner with 12 minutes to go.

It means Croatia sit third in their Nations League table, behind Portugal and France. Filip Helander’s Sweden are at the bottom.

Meanwhile, former Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty predicts goals galore tomorrow.

Docherty, who joined Hull in the summer, said: “It’s going to be a totally different derby experience, even if a lot of the guys will be now be used to playing without fans.

“It could end up being a really high-scoring affair – it could end up looking like a basketball game.

“You’ll see a game where both teams go at each other.”
