VW unveils its new flagship 300PS Golf GTI

-

VOLKSWAGEN is making its latest Golf GTI hot-hatch even more sizzling with a special Clubsport model.

The 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine has been significantly reworked to boost power from the standard 245PS to a whopping 300PS, with torque rising from 370Nm to 400Nm.

Mated to a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission, the popular German marque’s newcomer should be able to sprint to 62mph in less than six seconds and redline at 155mph.

The GTI’s chassis, including suspension and driving dynamics systems, along with the brakes have also been revisited to further enhance the performance.

The Clubsport even has a special profile in the drive mode selector that tailors its set-up to tackle the notorious Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit.

With a body lowered by 10mm and sitting on 18in alloys, this GTI variant also comes with a striking race-track look, too.

The front bumper has been redesigned to look more aerodynamic and the honeycomb intake has been widened, ditching the standard LED daytime running lights.

Other changes include a distinctive two-piece rear spoiler, a special diffuser, oval tailpipes on either side and wider side sills.

Interior highlights include ArtVelours sports seats, a sports steering wheel with perforated leather grip zones and gearshift paddles and aluminium-look pedals.

There’s no word on when it will be available to order in the UK or price but the standard version costs from £34,960 on the road.
