I Lewis out having no fans’ bants

- BY ALAN ROBERTSON

LEWIS McMINN admits the magic of matchday won’t be revived until he’s bombarded by potshots behind him as well as snapshots in front.

Edinburgh City turn up at an empty Glebe Park today as a seven-and-a-half month long wait for a league game ends.

The wait for fans shows no sign of ending any time soon, though, and Brechin keeper McMinn said: “I’m one for always interacting with the fans, especially the away games you go to.

“You get a good laugh out of it and it is something I do miss. The majority of the time you just get slated for whatever reason they make up – but they’re good. And there are some teams in the league I get on well with.”

But McMinn insists the SPFL’s bottom club from a curtailed last campaign have the tank this time around to at least keep their own fans satisfied.

He added: “We have a youthful squad, we have got plenty of energy in the team compared to last year when we were struggling for legs.”

Edinburgh ran title favourites Cove close at several points last term and Danny Handling reckons the pressure is on Queen’s Park having gone full-time.

And he’s relieved the game is back after avoiding what a chunk of lowerleague players did to pass time in channelling their inner Rory McIlroy.

The midfielder, 26, said: “Ever since I was at Hibs, there was a wee rumour going about from one of the players.

“Paul Hanlon went and saw a specialist but he came back and the specialist had said to him it was his busiest time of year because all the players go back from playing golf with wee niggles in their hips and knees.

“When he told me that I thought, ‘I’m not playing golf again until I am retired!’ I just love playing football.”
