Dream bathroom

Irate mum wonders why toilet is taking so long to finish.. then finds plumber sleeping on the job

A MUM waiting for fitters to complete her dream bathroom found the plumber asleep on the job.

Rachael Ferguson, below, “blew a gasket” after she rumbled the snoozing tradesman as the work overran.

A FURIOUS homeowner kicked out her bathroom fitters mid job – after finding a plumber asleep on the floor.

Rachael Ferguson’s house in Bathgate, West Lothian, has been left in chaos after workmen failed to install the wet wall suite that cost her nearly £2000 up-front.

The 60-year-old mum of two’s old bathroom was ripped out after she signed a deal with Supreme Wetwall Bathrooms.

But when the subcontractor assigned to refit it repeatedly stalled on the job, plumber Luke Campbell took the opportunity to have a snooze.

The stunned mum told how she “blew a gasket” and kicked him out of her home three days into what was promised to be a two-day job.

Oddly, tradesman Luke, of

Libra Plumbing, blamed the incident on a hot drink Rachael made him.

He told the Record: “I finished the cup of tea and can’t remember anything until waking up.”

Rachael, who expects it will cost her another £2000 to get someone to complete the job, said: “I’m just left in limbo with a big mess.

“This is appalling behaviour and needs to be exposed.”

The mum paid a £715 deposit to the bathroom company for her goods and a further £1260 on delivery.

She had been told to expect to pay the fitters £ 900 on completion of the job.

The work got under way last

Monday and was due to be completed by the end of Tuesday, but the job was hit by delays.

Rachael said: “A young lad turned up on his own and started ripping the bathroom out.

“Luke, from Libra Plumbing, said he was waiting for the fitter, who was phoning every 10 minutes saying he had personal probl ems and would be there soon. But he didn’t arrive at all.

“All he did on Tuesday was put the doors on the cabinets.

“On Wednesday, the plumber arrived with another young chap. He said the fitter would be there in a while.

“I went to go to see the progress and found the plumber lying on the floor sleeping among the rubble. I shouted to him but when he didn’t wake up I took the picture and went back in my room. “When I went back downstairs, they were sitting eating a McDonald’s and I just blew a gasket and told them to get their stuff.”

Rachael then complained to the wet wall company, who said the original fitter would finish the job on Friday with another team. When he didn’t arrive, she told the company she no longer wanted their services.

She said: “I’ve already paid for the furnishings, which are lying all over my dining room and my garage. My house is a total tip and I just think it’s a disgrace.

“You can’t rip someone’s bathroom out and leave them for days. I’m lucky I have an en suite I can use but others may not.”

Supreme Wetwall Bathrooms sent Rachael a Facebook message saying they wanted to “resolve the issue” and arrange for another fitter to attend but she refused and has now found another tradesman.

We tried to contact the company but no one responded.

The fitter who Rachael was told was assigned to complete the work denied he was the contractor and claimed he was only giving the plumber a lift.

When we contacted Libra Plumbing, they said they could not return our call but sent us the message about the cup of tea.
