Gers gaffer blasts race hate sickos

-

STEVEN GERRARD admits he was left furious by racist abuse aimed at Rangers kid Dapo Mebude.

The 19-year-old Ibrox striker spoke out on social media to reveal his dismay at sickening taunts from ‘Rangers’ fans online.

Police are now investigating the slurs after the teenager was targeted while playing the console game FIFA.

A disgusted Gerrard will now check in face to face with rising star Mebude.

The Light Blues boss, who also hinted Jordan Jones and George Edmundson could salvage their Ibrox careers, said: “We as a club have structures in place to make sure our players get the right care, protection and welfare in these situations.

“We condemn it as a football club. I’ve sat here many times and said we won’t accept and tolerate that type of behaviour.

“It’s now a police matter so I have to be careful how much I say.

“I’m really angry and disappointed that this has happened and in the coming hours I’ll certainly be trying to get face to face with Dapo to try to talk to him.”

Mebude first revealed the vile abuse on social media when he posted: “Some ‘Rangers’ fans being racist towards my family over a game of FIFA.”

Meanwhile, Gerrard has offered Covid sinners Jones and Edmundson hope they can still rescue their Gers careers.

The duo have been hit with seven-game bans for breaking coronavirus protocols at house party.

Gerrard, whose league leaders face Aberdeen at Ibrox tomorrow, said: “They were full of regret. It was a reaction I wanted to see and now it’s about me managing them to get back to being top players.”
