DEL: SFA MUST DO BETTER

- BY SCOTT BURNS

FRUSTRATED Derek McInnes wants the SFA to cough up for mandatory Covid-19 testing to make sure all their internationalists are clear before they are sent back to clubs.

The Aberdeen boss has seen his club caught up in the chaos after Scotland’s Under-21 trip to Greece.

McInnes said: “I think mandatory testing when players go away with their national teams should be there for the next three days.

“I think there should be testing and clubs should be compensated for that. The SFA just deliver the news and then you have to deal with it.

“That is what sticks in managers’ throats. It is not just me, there are a lot of managers out there unhappy at the attitude really of having to just deal with it.

“We will take your players and you deal with the consequences.

“The expense of all of this has fallen on the clubs.

“I think it should be incumbent on the SFA to protect our game.”

McInnes also thinks the SFA need to tighten up their protocols. He added: “We have to be better in dealing with these situations. “The communication was fine. We informed them of Ross McCrorie but after that we saw on Sky there was a positive staff member and I think they should have been tested again before they went to Greece. “We would have insisted our players were tested before they flew out again because McCrorie’s test was through the roof. “It wasn’t just borderline. I and the experts feel he has been carrying that for a few days.” McInnes saw his makeshift Dons side lose 4-0 at Ibrox yesterday and said: “I thought we started well against a Rangers team who are in a good place but the first goal takes a big deflection and the second goal we could do better with. “Half-time we talked about the next goal and six minutes later we lost another deflected goal and a soft penalty. “If that is a penalty there will be a lot more penalties for that.”
