ALASDAIR FRASER AT CALEDONIAN STADIUM

MILES STOREY hailed the returning home fans as Caley Thistle’s 12th man after a crucial victory over last week’s leaders Raith.

With 300 supporters watching, the Inverness men outshone Rovers but also had to put in the hard yards to stifle the in-form Kirkcaldy team.

And it might have been more emphatic if a couple of Storey attempts hadn’t smacked off the crossbar.

But Storey was more than content after a goal in each half from James Keatings and Scott Allardice reignited their challenge.

The win took John Robertson’s side just three points behind Raith when defeat would have plunged them nine adrift and 12 off the top.

And Storey said: “It definitely had an effect on us, seeing some of the fans back in the stadium.

“The way I play means I chase down a lot of lost causes. It gives you a bit of a lift putting in that workload when fans are there to show their appreciation.

“I’m just delighted it was such a good game for them to come back to.

“Raith play good football – they are probably one of the best passing teams in the league. But we reduced them to nothing really.

“It made it a bit of a shift for the forward boys – me, James, Shane Sutherland and Kai Kennedy .

“But when we got our foot on the ball we played some really good stuff.”

Raith No.2 Paul Smith summed up their disappointment. He said: “We’ve had a fantastic start, which we’ve had great plaudits for. But today we weren’t quite at it and we got our just rewards.”
