QUOTE OFTHE DAY

-

‘Thanks for everything Neil but it’s over for you. The season can still be salvaged but a change is needed, it has to be done’

Celtic fans who call Lennon their hero and a club legend see exactly what kind of man he really is.”

Bud Hay, Dumfries, said: “I actually think Rangers could win the league now but it has taken them long enough. It all boils down to Celtic imploding but we can’t win all the time.”

If one half of the Old Firm is in crisis then it usually means the other is enjoying a smooth ride and Rangers made it 22 games unbeaten this season with a 2-2 draw against Benfica at Ibrox.

That should be cause for celebration but it was tinged with regret that it wasn’t better after they conceded twice in three minutes late on to blow a two-goal lead – just as they did when the sides met in Lisbon in the first of their Europa League clashes.

However, the level of opposition meant the Gers fans couldn’t have too much cause for complaint as their side remain on course for a place in the last 32.

James Forsyth, Bellshill, said: “That’s twice Rangers have blown a two-goal lead but let’s not forget Benfica are a class act. It’s night and day from a few years ago when we couldn’t beat Progres Niederkorn. We are top of Group D having been in the lower pot in the draw.”

Alan McGaw, Alloa, said: “I’m disappointed we didn’t win against Benfica but we remain undefeated and with a chance to qualify. Rangers can hold their heads up high after what’s been achieved in Europe.”

But Lewis Fotheringham, Mount Ellen, said: “Yet again we got careless and threw away two points.

“Rangers cannot keep defending the way they did against Benfica because you get punished at that level if your concentration drops for even a split second. I just hope we are not left to rue the two draws against Benfica as there are no guarantees we’ll get the points needed against Liege and Poznan.”
