A man’s proud status as the neighbourh­ood’s king of Christmas comes under threat when a newcomer broadcasts his intention to decorate his house with so many lights that they will be visible from space. Heading for all-out war, the pair resort to increasing­ly desperate measures to outdo each other. Comedy, starring Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis and Kristin Chenoweth.

SAFE SKY ONE, 9PM

A former cage fighter enrages a Triad gang, who respond by murdering his family. Seeking redemption, he saves the life of a 12-year-old girl being attacked by gangsters, only to learn she is a mathematic­al genius in possession of a valuable code – which several criminal factions will kill to get their hands on. Action thriller, starring Jason Statham and Catherine Chan.

A woman’s Christmas spirit is crushed by a bad break-up, so her mother tries to cheer her up by sending her a series of Christmas decoration­s from her childhood. Each ornament seems to bring with it a piece of good fortune that gives her the confidence to turn her life around and pursue her goals. Romantic drama, starring Jessica Lowndes.

JACK REACHER CHANNEL 5, 10PM

Premiere. A former army sniper is arrested following a random shooting that leaves five people dead, but protests his innocence. An elusive former military police investigat­or is called in to examine the case, and becomes convinced a conspiracy is at work. Action thriller based on Lee Child’s series of novels, starring Tom Cruise, Rosamund Pike, Werner Herzog and Robert Duvall.

HIGH SOCIETY BBC FOUR, 8PM

Romantic complicati­ons arise when a playboy composer sets out to win back his ex-wife. However, she is about to marry another man – and the situation becomes even more difficult when a cynical reporter enters the fray. Musical comedy based on The Philadelph­ia Story, starring Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Grace Kelly, with Louis Armstrong appearing as himself.

HANG ’EM HIGH CHANNEL 5, 9PM

A former lawman survives being hanged for a crime he did not commit, and sets out to take revenge on the men who left him for dead. Ted Post’s Western, starring Clint Eastwood, Inger Stevens and Ed Begley.
