I love Lenny and fans are shameful but it’s time to go

-

LIFELONG Celtic fan John Higgins has branded the club’s young generation of fans “shameful” after the unsavoury protests calling for boss Neil Lennon’s head.

Parkhead season ticketholder Higgins powered into the last 16 of the UK Snooker Championship yesterday with a dominant 6-2 win over Welshman Jak Jones.

And after his fine victory Hoops-mad Higgins blasted: “It’s a disgrace the fans going to the stadium and injuring police officers. It’s shameful!

“When you think about it, the younger generation have only ever known success with Celtic winning everything and all these championships. But they need to get a grip, it’s out of order.

“Rangers are coming back but you can’t be acting like that.”

Four-time world champion Higgins believes it is probably about time Northern Irishman Lennon left for the good of his beloved club.

He said: “I love Neil. He’s been a great servant for our club. But I think it’s just got to the point now where it’s gone too far the other way.

“I think it would be better if he goes but who is there better to come in? I would take Gordon Strachan back, I think he’s good tactically.”

On the table Higgins hit breaks of 72, 68, 81 and 109 to stay on course for a fourth UK crown, nearly a decade after his last title success.

He added: “Without doubt winning the tournament this year would be the best achievement of my career.

“It’s been 10 years since I won a triple crown title so I’d dearly love to win another one.”
