Saving 10 now would be Lenny’s best ever

- BY CRAIG SWAN

CHRIS SUTTON reckons Neil Lennon will pull off the greatest achievement of his 20-year Celtic career if he can turn the tide and salvage 10 in a row.

The former Parkhead striker is surprised his old team- mate will be in charge for tomorrow’s clash with AC Milan, having felt the Betfred Cup loss to Ross County may have signalled the end of his reign.

However, Sutton insists that saving the situation and delivering a successful campaign would top anything he has done.

He said: “It would rank as his greatest ever achievement. Bar none. Because it can’t get any worse. The Celtic support have turned on him in the respect they don’t want him. He will be hurting

“But if Neil wins the [Milan] game, he’ll think he’s back on track.

“A lot of people, myself included, wouldn’t think that would be the case but the fact he is in charge is an odd decision by the club because of the implications of team selection.

“Celtic have to go for the league now. There’s a big question on whether the game against St Johnstone is bigger than Milan. And, of course it is because Celtic are out of Europe.

“But if you are Neil, you are thinking, I’ve got to win this [Milan] game. So he is going to play his strongest XI. That’s what I would do.”

Sutton isn’t sure whether Lennon can transform the situation but is convinced he deserves more respect.

Speaking to the Record Celtic Podcast, Sutton said: “The songs towards him. Lennon get to f***. Really? Is that what it’s come to?

“There’s a guy there who has committed 14 years of his life to the club, who had bullets sent through the post. He’s Celtic through and through.”
